From Boston to Shanghai to India: HFS provides architecture and interior design internationally
Hotel & Motel Management, Sept 20, 2004
Covering the globe with its insightful expertise, the HFS Group of Companies and its architectural and interior design division, Concepts 4, have received international acclaim for signature projects from Boston to Shanghai.
HFS recently completed the conversion of the 1924 Boston Police Headquarters into the full-service 225-room Jurys Boston Hotel owned by Jurys Doyle Ireland. The design task consisted of converting an undersized historic building with the interior surliness of a jail into a hotel with warm Irish hospitality.
This transformation was accomplished by building an additional two stories, expanding horizontally with more rooms, and incorporating a dramatic look in the public foyer by creating an opening between the first floor and basement level. Adding a spectacular two-story rough-hewn limestone fireplace, two-story glass waterfall, indoor river and illuminated glass staircase completed the sense of drama and warmth.
The 10-story Jurys Boston Hotel now showcases contemporary inspirations in furniture and finishes and infuses craftsmanship, quality materials and modern design throughout. HFS finished the interior design in time for the hotel to host John Kerry's National Democratic Convention team, dignitaries and the international press.
HFS expanded to India where it conducted the renovation of a division of Taj Hotels and Resorts, the oldest and most respected hotelier in India. The Concepts 4 design included renovations of seven properties in six cities in India, implementing significant upgrades to position them as a premier business hotel group. The guest rooms incorporate the latest technology, including plasma screens, wireless connectivity and ergonomically designed custom furniture specifically designed to accent and accommodate these features. The public areas assume an elegant contemporary design with influences from Indian culture, promoting a unique local identity.
HFS has been selected as a finalist to redevelop a key landmark area in Pudong, Shanghai. With the HFS concept, MediaX Walk will be located at the Shanghai Xiao Lu Jia Zui Redevelopment Zone and adjacent to the Shanghai Oriental Pearl Tower and the Shanghai International Convention Center, MediaX Walk will accommodate the 4 million pedestrian visitors, residents and guests who enjoy the Shanghai Oriental Pearl Tower annually. HFS continues to travel around the world helping hospitality companies progressively emerge to the next level with their remarkable design elements and sophisticated interiors.
