Acquisitions

Chicago-based Allied Hospitality Group bought the 53-room Hotel Baker in St. Charles, Ill.; the 321-room Marriott Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) North, and the Minneapolis Grand Hotel, which will have 140 rooms after its renovation is finished in the spring.

Burton, Buxton & Thornell bought the 192-room, full-service La Font Inn in Pascagoula, Miss., from Douglass Fontaine.

Discover Resorts, a resort rental management network based in Scottsdale, Ariz., bought Phoenix-based McFarland Resort Leasing, which manages 80 luxury homes and condominiums.

Loews Corp. sold the Howard Johnson Plaza and Days Inn-both on Eighth Avenue in Manhattan-to Hampshire Hotels & Resorts for an undisclosed amount.

Newport Beach, Calif.-based Hanford Hotels LLC bought the 329-room Hilton Concord (Calif.) Hotel. The company plans to spend $5.5 million on renovations and upgrades at the property.

James Koehler, a hotel owner and operator based in Aberdeen, S.D., bought the 128-unit AmeriSuites Phoenix/Arizona Mills hotel from Prime Hospitality Corp.

Mr. and Mrs. David Malone sold the Cedar Crest Motel in Abbotsford, Wis., to Kathleen Schraufnagel.

Monarch Development Corp. of Chevy Chase, Md., bought the 262-room Ramada Inn on Market Square in Harrisburg, Pa., from the Capital City Economic Development Corp. After renovations, the property will be refranchised as a Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza.

Prime Hospitality Corp. of Fairfield, N.J., bought the 128-room AmeriSuites in Irving, Texas, for $6.1 million from DFW Airport Hospitality Ltd.

The 505-room Westin Santa Clara (Calif.) Hotel was sold to Chicago-based Strategic Hotel Capital. Additionally, SHC will sell four properties: the Sheraton Westport Inn and Sheraton Westport Plaza-both in St. Louis; the Embassy Suites in Philadelphia; and the Westward Look Resort in Tucson, Ariz.

Development

Sunburst Hospitality Corp. of Silver Spring, Md., bought a site for hotel construction in Bedford, Mass. The project is expected to break ground in spring.

A 5,760-room, 20-building resort is in the pipeline for Walt Disney World Resort. The first phase of the Lake Buena Vista, Fla., resort is expected to open in 2002 with 2,880 rooms.

Openings

AmericInn of Deephaven, Minn., opened the 52-room AmericInn Motel & Suites in Beulah, N.D.

Bernhardt Construction opened the 43-room Microtel Inn in McAlester, Okla.

A new Chase Suite Hotel opened in Baton Rouge, La.

The 137-unit Clarion Hotel, a subsidiary of Silver Spring, Md.-based Choice Hotels International, opened in Davenport, Iowa.

Boston's first Doubletree Club Hotel opened at the Bayside Expo and Conference Center.

The 63-unit Marina Dunes Resort opened in Marina, Calif. The property is managed by Chicago-based Coastal Hotel Group.

CSM Lodging LLC of St. Paul, Minn., opened the 95-room TownePlace Suites by Marriott in Eagan, Minn.

El Paso Hotels LLC opened the 77-room Microtel Inn & Suites at El Paso International Airport.

Executive Hotel Management of Farmington Hills, Mich., opened the 98-room Microtel Inn & Suites in Roseville, Mich.

Extended Stay America of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., opened the 121-room Extended Stay America Efficiency Studios in Union City, Calif. Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts opened the 210-room Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale (Ariz.) at Troon North.

Fine Family Corp. opened the 357-room Hilton Garden Inn Chicago Downtown North. The property is managed by Interstate Hotels.

The 70-unit Hawthorn Suites, a subsidiary of Atlanta-based US Franchise Systems, opened in Fort Myers, Fla.

Kissimmee Hotel Corp. opened the 281-room Best Inn in Kissimmee, Fla.

Leisure Development LLC of Hutchinson, Kan., opened Missouri's first Hawthorn property, the 82-room Hawthorn Suites in Columbia.

New York-based Loews Hotels opened the 750-room Portofino Bay Hotel in Orlando.

Morrissey Hospitality Cos. opened the 93-suite The Lodge at Giants Ridge in Biwabik, Minn. MHC also manages the property.

New Riverside Garden Inn opened the 79-room Santa Cruz (Calif.) Best Inn & Suites.

Chicago-based Oxford Capital Partners opened the 136-unit Hawthorn Suites in Chicago. The property is managed by The Bricton Group.

The new, 112-room Hilton Garden Inn opened in Charlotte, N.C. The property is owned and managed by Panos/Smith Hotel Group HH-Harris LLC.

Philadelphia-based PHL Airport Hotel LLC opened the 132-room Philadelphia Airport Microtel Inn & Suites.

Second Illinois Motel Corp. owns and manages the newly opened 154-room Hilton Garden Inn in Addison, Ill.

Lodging, opened a 116-room property in Williamsport, Md.

The 474-room Westin Riverwalk, San Antonio, which is owned by multiple San Antonio investors and managed by Westin Hotels & Resorts, opened on West Market Street.

Cendant Corp. of Parsippany, N.J., opened the new Wingate Inn Hotel in Lima, Ohio.

San Diego-based Woodfin Suite Hotels opened a 156-suite property in Sorrento Mesa, Calif.

Dallas based Wyndham Hotels & Resorts opened the 180-room Wyndham Denver Tech Center.

S&H opened the 161-room Hilton Garden Inn Oklahoma City Airport. Heartland Hotel Corp. manages the property.
