Hotel & Motel Management, April 17, 2000

Washington-based MeriStar Hotels & Resorts will manage the 415-room Sheraton National Hotel in the Crystal City/Pentagon City area of Arlington, Va.

Kinkos, based in Ventura, Calif., will manage the business center at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville.

Irving, Texas-based Omni Hotels joined the crib-safety initiative started by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the National SAFE KIDS program.

Commerce, Calif.-based Smart & Final, a $1.5-billion food-distribution company, joined UniPro Foodservice, a cooperative of foodservice distributors with more than 200 national members.

Sheraton Suites Akron/Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, renewed its franchise agreement with the brand for the next 15 years. AmeriSuites franchised its first property, the 126-suite AmeriSuites in Grapevine, Texas. The principal owners are Dallas businessmen Jay Shinn, Wayne Newton and Matthew Newton.

Openings

Formerly the Hilton Inn, the newly renovated Quality Inn & Suites Oceanfront opened In Virginia Beach, Va. Burlage Associates LLC will continue to own and operate the six-story, 100-room property. Wichita, Kansas-based Candlewood Hotel Co. opened the 277-room Candlewood Suites in Las Vegas.

Donald E. Cole opened a two-story, 61-room Microtel Inn & Suites in Baldwinsville, N.Y. The brand is franchised by Atlanta-based US Franchise Systems.

Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Extended Stay America opened a 122-room Efficiency Studios in Dublin, Calif. Henry Kallan opened Hotel Giraffe, a 73-room boutique property on Park Avenue South in Manhattan.

Beverly Hills, Calif.-based Hilton Hotels Corp. opened the 207-room Hilton San Diego Airport/Harbor Island and the 162-room Hilton Garden Inn Los Angeles Airport/El Segundo. The former property is managed my Westmont Hospitality Corp.

The 90-suite Rochester/Henrietta Homewood Suites by Hilton opened in New York.

Atlanta-based Lodge Development opened the three-story, 112-room Suburban Lodge--Gainesville (Ga.)

Marriott International opened the 318-room Alpharetta (Ga.) Marriott Hotel and the 154-room Alpharetta Marriott Courtyard.

Mesquite Host LLC opened a 62-room Microtel Inn & Suites in Mesquite, Texas.

Memphis-based Innstar Corp. and Second Capital LLC opened Louisiana's fifth Microtel Inn & Suites in Baton Rouge. The 82-room property offers continental breakfast and an outdoor pool.

Palatine Hotel Corp. opened the 74-unit Hawthorn Suites in Lafayette, Ind. Atlanta-based US Franchise Systems, which franchises the brand, presented the city with 100 hawthorn trees to commemorate the brand's 100th property.

Dallas-based Studio 6 opened a 124-unit property in Charlotte, N.C.
