Crossover products - Photo products by Samsung - Brief Article - Statistical Data Included

Discount Store News, March 20, 2000

With the advent of digital technologies, photo products manufacturers are beginning to experiment with unique crossover products.

Drawing attention at the Samsung booth at the Photo Marketing Association's trade show in Februrary were three brightly colored, translucent digital cameras. In addition, the company's hybrid digital camera/MP3 player seemed to be getting a very positive response.

In February, Samsung announced that the CyberMax 35 MPS will ship in spring 2000. The product captures digital images with VGA resolution, downloads files from the Internet and plays back MP3 files. It also functions as a Web camera for live video conferencing over the Internet--all for $289.99 SRP. It's the full-featured camera with the most crossover appeal. A similar product without the audio sells for $199.99.

The slew' of functions transform the 'product from a digital-imaging device to a multi-use, portable PC accessory.' Saturday Night Live Ronko knife jokes aside, hybrid products such as these have much to offer the fledging digital-imaging industry.
