For Back-to-School and into fall/winter, the painter's silhouette will be a key look, with black expected to make a strong showing. And Dickies will aggressively go after Carhartt's business with an expanded insulated brown duck line under the Arctic Region label, though at price points below those of Carhartt.

As retailers re-evaluate their apparel businesses, which in many cases have been underperforming in recent seasons, they are making sure that their basics assortments aren't at fault. By emphasizing categories like workwear, merchants know they'll be able to rebuild from a healthy core.
