Discount Store News, Oct 20, 1997

As Lisa Lilienthal, Mrs. America for 1998, makes her first appearances this fall for The Eureka Company. it marks the fifth straight year that the reigning Mrs. America has carried the message about Eureka's World Vac Charities supporting National Parks.

During that time, five different Mrs. Americas have traveled hundreds of thousands of miles, appeared in virtually every major city in the United States, signed more than 70,000 complimentary photographs, and spoken to audiences of many thousands of people in stores, at dealer shows and at special events.

They have met such celebrities as President Bush, astronaut Jim Lovell, baseball star Ernie Banks, personalities such as Kathie Lee, Julia Childs and Ed McMahon, and numerous other movie and TV stars, sports figures, as well as tens of thousands of people from all walks of life.

In every case, the message of Mrs. America has been the Eureka Company mission supporting preservation of our great National Parks.

Eureka has contributed more than $1.2 million to the cause of National Parks, including educational programming about parks and the National Park Ranger award presented by the president of the United States.

A portion of the price of each World Vac sold in the United States is donated by Eureka to the National Parks A similar program is conducted by Eureka in Canada.

Mrs. America symbolically represents the Eureka primary demographic of adult women who make or influence so many of the vacuum cleaner purchases in the United States.

The current Mrs. America, Lisa Lilienthal, is a fitting representative of women in the United States. She is a mother who postponed her career as a professional model in Manhattan to raise her two young children. Her husband owns his own cabinet-making company.

Mrs. America is a popular attraction for stores as she autographs photos for customers. She is particularly popular with women and small children. The stores at which Mrs. America has appeared for Eureka reads like the all-star lineup for retailers, including the very largest chains.

In each case, people line up to meet her and to receive a complimentary color autographed photo, suitable for framing.

A Eureka spokesperson said, "Mrs. America is a definite asset for our company. She represents Eureka's commitment to the environment and National Parks with class and dignity. America is able to attract valuable attention by many people to the needs of support for National Parks."

Store appearances of Mrs. America may be requested through a Eureka account representative.
