Ross Adds 3 In Fla.; 16 More in U.S.

NEWARK, Calif. - Ross Stores opened three new stores this week, all in the expanding South Florida market This is the first of 16 planned openings across the country for the month.

Ross will now operate a total of 25 stores in Florida, an area targeted by the retailer last year as an expanding and viable market.

In Florida, the 185-unit retailer opened stores in Hialeah, Pembroke Pines and Westchester, Fla.

Norman Ferber, president and ceo, said the off-pricer would continue to grow in the area and plans additional South Florida stores in the next few years.

All three of the new Florida stores average approximately 25,000 square feet. Ross currently operates seven stores in South Florida, including two in Miami.

This month, the retailer has planned 13 additional openings in its Los Angeles, Philadelphia/South Jersey, Washington D.C., Dallas/Fort Worth, Boise and Phoenix markets.

In 1989, the discounter reported sales of $741 million.
