Apparel makers pledge to curb 'sweatshop' conditions - Brief Article

Discount Store News, Nov 6, 1995

U.S. Labor Secretary Robert Reich secured agreements from several dozen national apparel manufacturers to monitor the compliance of their contractors with federal labor laws. During meetings with discount chain leaders earlier this fall, Reich had promised to issue a list of all clothing producers that agree to crackdown on "sweatshop" practices by their contractors.

That list, which Reich plans to issue by Nov. 24, included 34 garment vendors at press time.
