New angle on greeting Kmart card shoppers - K Mart Corp.'s Auburn Hills, Michigan prototype store's greeting card department

Discount Store News, Feb 1, 1993

For better identification in the card department, Sangamon coordinated the area according to color and graphic presentation. For example, a birthday card for a woman carries a pink top caption strip, pink graphic sign (with a birthday cake), and pink pocket locator card--the markers set behind the greeting card.

The only variation in this program was in party supplies, which didn't receive a canopy sign but a balloon display suspended above the area.

Unlike the Sayville store, there is no canopy over the entire department or banners suspended from the ceiling. In its place are cannoys over the top of the card runs.

Also new is a "For Kids Only" boutique for childrens' cards and related merchandise. "For Kids Only" is a line of cards with messages that Sangamon introduced a couple of years ago specifically for children-to-adult, adult-to-child, and child-to-child giving.
