After circling past the Irving Mall, you'll find a strip mall filled with superstores. A Best Buy is close to the entrance, and it also includes OfficeMax and PetSmart, although these are not terrific examples of either chain.

Re-enter the access road, and turn left at the light (back over Airport Highway) and le again. Wal-Mart will be on the right. About a half-mile further, another power center contains Computer City, Michael's, Oshman's SuperSports USA and a massive Kmart (as well as the site of a former Pace/Sam's Club unit). Pep Boys is adjacent to this center.

Continue on the access road an example of the renewed Venture will be on the right about two blocks away.

Other Sites of Interest

Target has several units in this market, the most interesting of which is its Urban prototype, located in the shadow of the Southland Corporation's headquarters.

While there isn't much different in, merchandising, the store is the first that Target has opened in an urban, lower income market in many years.

Target at City Place Market: Take 35E south to the 45/75 exit. Stay on 75 to Haskell St.

Fiesta Mart, the Houstonbased ethnic supermarket chain, recently arrived in Dallas, and has purchased several abandoned Sears buildings. Fiesta Mart, combined With the chains on the tours, more or less completes the grocery offering in the Dallas area. Developed to appeal to Hispanics, the Chain features thousands of skus of Mexican-prepared and fresh foods, and a produce department thas has to be seen to believed.

Fiesta Mart: Take 35 south to 12th St/Beckley. Turn right on Llewelyn (4th light). Fiesta Mart will be two blocks ahead, at the corner of Jefferson.

Incredible Universe, located in the booming Garland market, is surrounded by superstore concepts, including the original Wal-Mart Hypermarket (now a supercenter), Best Buy and dozens of others.

Incredible Universe: Take 635 east to Garland Road south. Stay right, take a right on Northwest Highway. The store will be ahead, next to Sam's Club.

Eatzi's. For the latest word in chef-to-go concepts, Eatzi's is the place. Over 60 chefs turn out 450 separate entrees, dozens of fresh breads and other baked goods, and much more.

Eatzi's: Stay on 35E access road, past the Convention Center. Turn left on Oaklawn; it will be approximately three miles ahead on left, at the intersection of Oaklawn.
