The parent company of an operator of a quarry near St. George, where sand and gravel was illegally removed from federal lands, has agreed to a $6 million claim by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), says the U.S. Attorneys office. U.S. Aggregates Inc., the parent company of Western Rock Products Inc., admitted last week the BLM's claim that Western Rock had removed and sold sand and gravel from federal property adjacent to their quarry in Southern Utah.

The unlawful removal began in the 1970s, according to the U.S. Attorneys office. In 2002, U.S. Aggregates filed for bankruptcy protection in Nevada.
