Liebherr presents special wheel loaders at Bauma 2004

Pit & Quarry, August, 2004

Liebherr showed various models from its range of medium and large wheel loaders at the 2004 Bauma Mining show in Munich, Germany. The L 580 2plus2, the flagship of the Liebherr wheel loaders with a 195 kW (265 hp) engine and up to 17,850 kg tipping load, was shown in a rock version for particularly tough quarrying operations. It was fitted with Bridgestone VSDT L5 rock tires and a special rock bucket with delta blade, Bofors teeth and overflow grating. It also has special guards for the windscreen, the dumping ram and the rear section of the body.

A further exhibit for special practical needs was the L 544 2plus2 Industrie, equipped with the "timber worker," an attachment for industrial and timber operations. With its Goodyear GP-4B L4 tires and a 6-cu.-m light-material bucket with cutting edge and reversible fan drive, the L 544 2plus2 Industrie version is designed for handling wood shavings. This wheel loader has a 121 kW (165 hp) engine and a tipping load of 10,600 kg.

From the medium-size range, Liebherr exhibited an L 538 P equipped for recycling operations. Its power output is 100 kW (136 hp) and its maximum tipping load 9,000 kg. The equipment for this machine includes a fluff filter, reversible fan blades, air conditioning, hydraulic motor guards and travel oscillation damping. The P linkage with quick-change device and the cutting-edge bucket with hydraulic hold-down device make this L 538 P an ideal handling device in the recycling industry.
