Pompa Brothers Inc. has an application pending with the Department of Environmental Conservation for a hard-rock extraction site along the Kayderosseras Ridge. The company now operates a sand and gravel pit off Coy Road in Greenfield. Ed Pompa, of Pompa Brothers Inc., says, "We have been there for 30 or 40 years.

But some Greenfield residents say the new hard-rock mining will bring a new set of troubles. Tom Siragusa of Greenfield Concerned Citizens says, "Our main concern is ... that the top of the ridge would be removed off the top of the Kayderosseras Range and that would make a visual dent in the outward view of Greenfield."
