Tiny Machines

Modern Machine Shop, March, 2003 by Katherine A. Kelley

Tiny Machines. There are certainly many in the field who enjoy making model trains, planes and cars. That hobby as a child may have even led some to choose metalworking as a career. But did you know that those two interests -- model-making and metalworking -- could be combined? Barry Jordan has made ten machine models, and each is said to be a perfect replica and a functional machine capable of doing the job of the full-size prototype in miniature.

This year Mr. Jordan, of Derby, England, won the Metalworking Craftsmen of the Year from the Joe Martin Foundation for Exceptional Craftsmanship. He will receive his award at the North American Model Society exposition in Detroit, Michigan, on April 6, 2003. Mr. Jordan's machines, including two miniature Bridgeport mills, will be on display at the show. Visit www.modelengineeringsoc.com for more information.
