New waterjet cutting capabilities—TCI Precision Metals, booth 2557

Modern Machine Shop, March, 2005 by Christy R. Bramlet

The company has expanded its waterjet cutting capabilities for pre-machining with the distribution of a 48" x 96" Flow International waterjet cutting machine that will be on display.

Capable of quickly cutting complex shapes in materials ranging from aluminum to titanium, the machine is useful for producing near-net shapes ready for final machining, the company says. The process uses a high-pressure solution of water and abrasive particles to cut virtually any material as thick as 8". Because the system cuts without heat, the process eliminates hard edges, warping and changes to the metallurgical composition.
