Machine-ready blanks reduce overall part costs—TCI Precision Metals, booth 2949
Modern Machine Shop, March, 2008
TCI Precision Metals says its machine-ready blanks can reduce the cost of labor, leading to lower part costs and greater efficiency. While buying raw stock can allow shops to lower material costs, it doesn't save as much on overall part costs as machine-ready blanks, the company says.
The blanks allow shops to start production immediately without prep operations such as sawing, grinding, flattening or squaring. In addition, operators can spend less time adjusting setups and fixture offsets, the company says.
The blanks maintain dimensional tolerances of [ or -] 0.0005" and squareness, flatness and parallelism tolerances of [ or -] 0.0002". They are processed with double-disc grinding, blanchard grinding, duplex milling and sub operations such as flattening, deburring and surface improvement. Blanks are available in aluminum, titanium, tool steel, stainless, high temperature and nickel alloys, spring steel and other materials.
