Multifunction machines feature collision-avoidance software—Okuma America, booth 2932

Modern Machine Shop, March, 2008

Designed to improve part quality and throughput in less time with less cost, the Multus B300/B400 series machines are capable of turning, milling and material handling operations. Available from Okuma, the machines are designed to free floor space, reduce setups and labor requirements, and eliminate parts in waiting between operations.

Combined with the company's Thinc-OSP control, the machines' collision-avoidance software runs simulations and catches potential collisions before they create scrap. Equipped with a powerful but compact turret, the PREX motor provides high output while reducing roller heat, the company says. Thermal-friendly construction is said to provide accuracy, even in complex applications. Optional features include a subspindle or tailstock.
