Software component designed for 3D sketching, application integration

Modern Machine Shop,  May, 2008

Siemens PLM Software offers version 37.0 of the D-Cubed 3D dimensional constraint manager (3D DCM). This software component positions parts in assemblies, simulates their kinematic motion and parametrically controls the configuration of 3D sketches and the shape of parts.

Designed for 3D sketching, the software supports the creation of new parts and features, the routing of piping, electrical and HVAC systems and sweep paths. Directed distance dimensions between points, which can be measured along any given vector, are new to this version. According to the company, the software's support for comprehensive geometry, dimensions and constraints enables designers to efficiently build, modify and animate demanding assemblies and mechanisms.

The system supports 32- and 64-bit versions of Windows Vista, Linux Suse v10, Linux Red Hat Enterprise 5 and the Intel 32-bit processor version of Mac OS X.
