Process Innovations For Production Grinding

Modern Machine Shop, August, 2000

On display will be a "value--engineered" Viking SuperSeries 200 CNC centerless grinder and a GV-600 double-disc grinder with rotary carrier. In addition, there will be interactive presentations covering a range of innovative production grinding processes, including advanced CBN grinding applications, a "lean" CAM lobe grinding process, reliability and maintainability simulation techniques, and an Internet-based system for remote machine monitoring and diagnosis.

There will be a live demonstration of centerless in-feed grinding on shaft-type parts typical of many common centerless applications. The grinder will incorporate a simple, mechanical loader to highlight the machine's ability to be configured for applications requiring multiple setups, according to the company. This seven-axis CNC grinder offers 0.1 micron resolution in all axes, and it is capable of holding sub-micron tolerances in demanding production grinding applications. This fully - enclosed machine meets the requirements for general and high-technology applications, including grinding with superabrasive wheels.

The GV-600 vertical spindle double-disc grinder features a longer work path for progressive grinding. Quick-change capabilities allow it to be used as a stand-alone machine or in line with other high production equipment.
