Modular solution for automated flexible production—Okuma America, booth A-8301

Modern Machine Shop, August, 2002

The company's CNC Production System is said to provide users with a simple, modular solution for automated flexible manufacturing. The system can maximize spindle cut times by reducing lead times and automating many processes.

The system starts with the Okuma MA family of horizontal machining centers. The machines are combined with a stacker crane and rail system, plus custom pallet system options. Each system is controlled by a Windows NT 4.0 server. The system oversees job management, monitoring, scheduling and diagnostics.

The company says it has made FMS technology simple and affordable by giving customers many size and pricing options. They can choose from a single machine, crane and single-level pallet storage system to multi-machine FMS with automated material storage and multilevel pallet storage.

Also on display will be 11 new lathes and machining centers, along with the company's open-architecture CNC control.
