$10,000 calls off auction
Modern Machine Shop, Nov, 2002 by Katherine A. Kelley
To raise money to honor the memory of a distributor, Cincinnati Machine planned to auction off an autographed Dale Earnhardt Jr. racing suit, identical to what he wears on the NASCAR Winston Cup circuit. But instead, the day before beginning the auction (to take place at IMTS and on the Web), other distributors stepped in and raised $10,000, more than twice the reserve price, to ensure the Earnhardt suit stays within the Greater Cincinnati area.
The money will be contributed to the United Methodist Children's Home in Decatur, Georgia, in the name of Tim Teck, who died in an accidental fall in July. Mr. Teck was president of Teck Machine Tool in Tucker, Georgia. The suit will go on display at the Montgomery Inn Restaurant at the Boathouse in Cincinnati, Ohio.
