Three-axis CNC router for sheet work

Modern Machine Shop, Nov, 2007

The SR- 100 sheet router from Haas Automation is a gantry-style, three-axis CNC machine with travels of 100" x 52" x 8" (X, Y,Z). It accommodates 4' x 8' sheets of material and accepts ISO standard G-code programming through the company's full-function CNC control.

The router is equipped with a 24,000-rpm, 5-hp (continuous) 30-taper spindle. An optional 10-pocket ATC is available. Other options include high speed machining with look-ahead, a hard disc drive with Ethernet interface and full fourth-axis capability.

The open-frame design of the router's steel-beam base allows users to design their own table and fixturing specifically to meet their individual needs (a 1"-thick MDF table is standard). The overhead gantry assembly travels the full length of the fixed table on precision, low-friction linear guides, resulting in accurate positioning, the company says. Brushless servomotors on all axes produce rapids as fast as 2,000 ipm in X and Y axes for fast cycle times.
