Where's that manual?

Modern Machine Shop, Jan, 2003 by Katherine A. Kelley

Ever had a question about one of your machines and gone looking for the manual? First it's not where it is supposed to be. Then you find what you think is the right one, but realize it is for the "60" version and you have the "80" version. Finally you find the right in the break room next to the bananas, only to discover the page you need has been removed.

Frustrating? Lamb Technicon has a solution for you. The UNOVA Company (Warren, Michigan) has produced a new computerized manual that replaces binders with volumes of written procedures and paper drawings that typically accompany machine tools. The new manual is a standard feature of the Bobcat HMC. The manual resides on the machine's CNC and can also be conveniently stored on various PCs so it is readily accessible. Updates and revisions are on CD-ROM.
