Three-axis CNC modules

Modern Machine Shop, Jan, 2005 by Christy R. Bramlet

Self-Units are marketed to machine builders and integrators who engineer and fabricate stand-alone equipment, in-line and rotary transfer lines.

These three-axis CNC modules are available in seven models, with a horizontal or vertical six- or eight-tool turret-type bolder, or including an ATC with a seven-tool or a nine-tool capacity. A 15-tool ATC is also available in a vertical configuration.

The modules come equipped with either a Yasnac or Fanuc 32-bit control that is capable of storing 63 to 300 programs. They can also be ordered without servomotors and controls, which gives machine tool builders the option to incorporate their own components.

The six- and eight-tool turret-type units have a 3-hp spindle motor, while the seven- and nine-tool units feature a 2-hp spindle motor. Maximum standard spindle speeds range from 6,000 rpm to 17,000 rpm. An optional, high speed spindle is capable of 20,000 rpm.
