CAM software compatible with Windows Vista, SolidWorks 2008

Modern Machine Shop, Feb, 2008

Surfware's SurfCAM Velocity version 3.0 SP2 expands upon version 3.0's four- and five-axis machining operations and knowledge-based software programming templates. SP2 is compatible with the Windows Vista operating system, and it supports SolidWorks2008. Being Vista compliant enables the service pack to run on the latest computer hardware and software, the company says, adding that the software's use of Microsoft DirectX graphics technology offers increased graphics performance.

Another enhancement of this service pack is its associativity to SolidWorks 2008 parts and assemblies. The software monitors engineering changes and automatically updates all necessary toolpath operations in Surf CAM. making it useful for users of SolidWorks, SolidWorks PDO (Parts Design Only) and SolidWorks PD&A (Parts Design and Assemblies), the company says.

Fast geometry selection allows users to select a large number of elements using MultSelOn mode. These elements include point-cloud data and large, complex surface parts. Other enhancements include fast processing, fast loading, and improved CAD interoperability.
