Mitsubishi's new EVOL: advancing corrugating to the next level: the EVOL is the latest addition to the full line of flexo folder-gluers from Mitsubishi. The advancements of the newly-redesigned EVOL result in an unparalleled combination of speed and setup time, with a new level of print and folding accuracies

Paperboard Packaging, Dec, 2004

EVOL runs reliably at 350 boxes per minute with two operators. Makereadies are set by two operators in two to three minutes, and typically require one test box.

Mitsubishi introduced its newest flexo folder-gluer to the world market in late 2003. Since then, Mitsubishi has sold 15 EVOLs to various plants around the world. Three EVOLs were sold to a single customer.

Features

The EVOL features a newly-designed lead edge feeder incorporating overlapping wheels in a zigzag arrangement to give accurate feed for any corrugated board. Feeding accuracy is enhanced by an integral torque balancer on the lead edge feeder drive.

The combination of a single belt vacuum transfer system and independent drives on each printing cylinder provides the highest quality printing.

Independent drives for the anilox rolls allow for automatic compensation for different print die thicknesses from 3.2 to 7 millimeters (0.025 to 0.0280 inches). The chambered doctor blade gives consistent print density over all running speeds and is capable of high speeds even with fine printing.

Mitsubishi's proprietary designed gauging rollers and forming belts with speed control and automatically adjusting folding guide give a stable and precise folding accuracy. The EVOL incorporates a unique system to alternate creaser profiles online so the box maker can handle a wide variety of boxes.

The EVOL improves productivity with a single stage counter ejector that minimizes fishtailing of boxes through a top stacking design. This design gives reliable operation even on diecut and outside glue lap boxes.

An automatic operational setup and test printing mode allows for order changes with minimal operator involvement. The EVOL automatically slows the machine down in preparation for the next order while the preceding order is still running. Then it automatically shuts down as the last box is run, resets for the next order and then automatically runs the test box for the new box run.

The EVOL incorporates a production control unit memorizing up to 50,000 repeat order setups. A preventative maintenance system provides detailed information on schedule to ensure that routine maintenance is performed on time.
