Being a packaging 'Pro': Archbold Container designs an inexpensive yet durable display
Paperboard Packaging, Nov, 2003
Two years ago, Archbold Container Corp., Archbold, Ohio, set out to develop a new design for a counter display. The display needed to be durable, yet inexpensive. Archbold saw a need for that type of display in the marketplace and wanted to fill that niche.
A Basic Unit
Archbold's management determined the display needed to be a self-standing unit that would hold paper or other collateral material or items. Using the concept of having two or more layers of corrugated paper available, the pocket could come from the basic unit with very little assembly.
That's how the company designed Pock-It Pro. The name was selected for the unique patented pocket. Pock-It Pro also was named for its ability to ship flat, which reduces freight costs and the breakage that standard plastic counter units experience.
The Pock-It Pro unit is made of either E- or F-flute and is produced using standard equipment, including labelers, diecutters and specialty gluing equipment.
"There is no additional difficulty producing this item than converting any other corrugated material," says Mike Sikora, sales and marketing manager of Archbold Container.
It is easily designed into a counter/easel display, floor and sidekick displays, display headers, and pallet displays.
Pock-It Pro can be either labeled or directly printed, which gives Archbold substantial flexibility when creating the display for customers. Currently, a major cosmetic firm is preparing to use a sidekick design that incorporates the Pock-It Pro concept.
Go Where It Takes It
The Pock-It Pro, in its current state, was introduced in March. But the concept will "go where the market takes it," Sikora says.
Presently, the pocket assembly can hold any type of paper material, including credit card applications, company literature, pamphlets, coupons, and recipe cards, as well as CDs, DVDs and cosmetics.
Archbold Container will broaden its Pock-It Pro horizons to whatever its customers want or need.
One of its main features is the display's ability to ship flat, which can save on shipping costs while maximizing shipping methods. It also is very easy to assemble so the retailer can put it together quickly.
Compared to similar plastic display units, the Pock-It Pro will not break or tear. It also is very price-competitive compared to plastic units.
