DTL Prepared to Test Bunk Beds to New Standard
Wood & Wood Products, May, 2000
DETROIT TESTING LABORATORY, an independent testing facility, is partnering with bunk bed manufacturers to ensure that their beds are in compliance with the Consumer Product Safety Commission bunk bed regulation which takes effect June 19, 2000, and the ASTM bunk bed standard. The organization actively participates in the development and revisions of the ASTM standard and is the sponsor and administrator of the Bunk Bed Certification Program.
The program requires participating manufacturers to submit their beds for initial qualification. Quarterly testing is also performed to ensure continuing compliance. A Directory of Certified Bunk Beds, which lists all models that have been certified in the program, is published twice yearly.
