Spec's Music, in move - store closures

Spec's Music, in move to bolster DVD sales, is closing video rental departments in 5 more stores. Closings, expected to be completed by April, will leave Miami chain with rental units in 3 of 42 outlets, it said. Rental space will be replaced by expanded DVD and CD offerings, spokeswoman said. "It was a factor of space and how well [video rental] was performing in each store," she said.

Chain shut 3 rental units last fall in reducing total to 8 (TVD Nov 3 p14). Spec's won't open new stores this year, after closing 4 in 1997 to shrink to 42.
