Nearly all U.S. TV - TV station forecast

Nearly all U.S. TV stations expect to convert to digital by year-end 2002, according to study commissioned by Harris released at CES. Executives of 481 stations were surveyed. Findings: (1) 93% said they were likely to convert within 5 years. (2) 66% felt they could afford conversion, up from 42% year ago.

(3) 23% said they primarily would broadcast HDTV, 33% multiplexed, 44% unsure. (4) 76% felt low-cost DTV sets were most important factor in consumer acceptance.
