Satellite Bcstg - new access rules

Television Digest with Consumer Electronics, Jan 12, 1998

Satellite Bcstg. & Communications Assn. (SBCA) Pres. Charles Hewitt was expected to endorse 5-year extension of program access rules and inclusion of language ensuring that terrestrial-delivered programs are covered, we're told by SBCA sources. Hewitt was expected to make comments at CES after our deadline.

Source said satellite companies have had trouble gaining access to regional sports networks, which cable operators have been distributing via fiber in order to avoid program access rules. He said SBCA will call for extension of rules to 2007 from 2002.
