Nation's Restaurant News, March 20, 2006

OAK BROOK, ILL. -- McDonald's Corp. said global comparable-restaurant sales rose 4.7 percent in February, compared with year-earlier results, marking the company's 4th straight month of positive worldwide same-store sale results. Officials said the chain's new Spicy Chicken Sandwich, breakfast items and extended hours helped generate a 3.6-percent increase in U.S. same-store sales for the month.

In Europe, the chain's February same-store sales jumped 5.4 percent, driven by strong results in France and Germany, and with the United Kingdom posting its first positive numbers in many months. Monthly same-store sales rose 3.9 percent in the chain's Asia-Pacific/Middle East/Africa division.

McDonald's is owner or franchisor of more than 30,000 burger restaurants worldwide.
