Boston restaurant sets new serving-size record

Nation's Restaurant News, April 5, 2004

BOSTON -- The Black Rose brewpub here set a new record for the world's largest fish-and-chips serving, according to Icelandic USA Inc., a manufacturer of frozen seafood.

The serving weighed in at 77.75 pounds, including 34.21 pounds of battered and fried cod fillet and 43.54 pounds of French fries. The feast topped the 71.99-pound "Guinness Book of World Records" entry set by an establishment in South Africa.

To ensure that the record was valid, an official from the city of Boston's Division of Weights and Measures inspected the scale and witnessed the weighing, and an official from the city's Inspectional Services Department was on hand to taste the fish to ensure that it was edible.
