NRA Educational Foundation honors industry leaders, supporters

Nation's Restaurant News, April 16, 2001

The National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation's Golf and Leadership Classic was held last month in Pebble Beach, Calif. Nearly 100 attendees hit The Links at Spanish Bay, Spyglass Hill Golf Course and Pebble Beach Golf Links, some of the world's more famous tracks.

During the golf classic weekend, Dan Glickman, the U.S. secretary of agriculture from March 1995 to January 2001, spoke to attendees about food safety and biotechnology. He appeared in conjunction with The Panetta Institute, a nonpartisan center for the study of public policy to prepare society for the challenges of the 21st century.

The NRA Educational Foundation also honored actor Clint Eastwood during the gala weekend for his advocacy on behalf of the restaurant industry. Eastwood supported legislation mandating that potential violators of the Americans with Disabilities Act be notified of violations before they are sued.

The 9-year-old event has raised more than $1 million for educational programs and scholarships for the restaurant and foodservice industry.
