Nation's Restaurant News, April 28, 2003

WASHINGTON -- The Beer Institute, a trade group that represents brewers, and the National Beer Wholesalers Association issued a report saying that the beer industry contributes more than $144 billion annually to the U.S. economy. The 2003 Beer Industry Impact Study is the first update of data on the industry since 1997.

Jeff Becker, president of the Beer Institute, said the beer industry creates 1.6 million direct and indirect jobs and provides American workers with nearly $48 billion in annual wages.
