TORONTO - Canadian coffee retailer The Second Cup Ltd., operator of 276 Second Cup stores in Canada and the 256-unit Gloria Jean's Gourmet Coffee chain in the United States, said it would sell its 15-unit Arizona-based Coffee Plantation chain to specialty coffee house operator Coffee People Inc. of Portland, Ore.

The transaction is slated for May. Financial terms were not disclosed. In addition, Second Cup's largest shareholder, family-style restaurant operator Cara Operations Ltd., based here, completed its acquisition of up to 35 percent of issued and outstanding shares of The Spectra Group of Great Restaurants Inc.
