Garden Fresh's 2nd-Q net plunges on same-store-sales dip

SAN DIEGO -- Garden Fresh Restaurants Corp. said net earnings for its second quarter ended March 31 plummeted 34 percent to $1.6 million, or 27 cents per diluted share, versus $2.4 million, or 42 cents per diluted share, in the year-ago period. Sales rose 0.9 percent to $56.4 million, while same-store sales dropped 1.1 percent.

The company operates 97 salad buffet restaurants under the Souplantation and Sweet Tomatoes names.
