GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- Apple Core Enterprises, an operator of four Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar franchises in North Dakota's Red River Valley, collected $6,745.76 from a series of pancake breakfasts and donated it to Dru's Dive, a skydiving event that raises awareness for violence against students and women. Proceeds from Dru's Dive, named after murdered University of North Dakota student Dru Sjodin, benefit Operation Freefall and the North Dakota Council on Abused Women's Services.

Patrons at Apple Core's restaurants in Grand Forks and Fargo paid $5 to be served pancakes by student volunteers. The Council on Abused Women's Services plans to put funds raised toward scholarships in memory of Sjodin and two other slain students: Mindy Morgenstern of Valley City State University and Anita Knutson of Minot State University.

Rachel Lykken, supervisor for one of the Fargo Applebee's units, organized the pancake breakfasts and participated in Dru's Dive.
