AFC scuttles fast-casual plan, full-service debut

Nation's Restaurant News, June 16, 2003

ATLANTA -- Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits, a 1,744-unit subsidiary of AFC Enterprises Inc., shuttered its Cajun Kitchen fast-casual concept and scrapped plans to open an upper-midscale, New Orleans-style restaurant in Atlanta that would have been called Tib's Grill and would have been AFC's first full-service concept.

Tib's Grill had expected to collect per-person dinner checks of $18 to $20.

Cajun Kitchen and Tib's Grill were to be run by a new operating group called Looziana Culinary Concepts LLC, which was launched by Popeyes' then-president, Jon Luther. He left the company late last year to become chief executive of Allied Domecq Quick Service Restaurants.
