Aramark out at Boston convention centers; contracts terminated

Nation's Restaurant News, July 28, 2008

BOSTON -- Citing an ongoing labor union dispute and general dissatisfaction with the foodservice program, the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority terminated its contract with Philadelphia-based onsite feeder Aramark Corp. at the Hynes and South Boston convention centers, the Boston Herald reported.

The MCCA also reportedly indicated it was exploring self-operating the foodservice at the two convention centers.

Recently the National Labor Relations Board hit Aramark with an unfair-labor-practice complaint generated by staff affiliated with the Unite Here labor union at the two facilities, the Herald reported.

Aramark's contract with the MCCA, which is worth approximately $27 million a year, will be phased out within the next year, the Herald reported.
