L.A. City Council panel OKs fast-food development ban

Nation's Restaurant News, Jan 14, 2008

LOS ANGELES -- A City Council committee has approved for a vote a draft ordinance that would prevent the opening of quick-service restaurants in large parts of the city for one year.

The measure, which still required a vote of the full City Council, would affect areas of South Los Angeles in which some 700,000 people reside. Lawmakers claim that diet-related health problems there are high as a result of a proliferation of fast-food restaurants.
