When the moon hits the sun with a blockage that stuns…

Nation's Restaurant News, August 23, 1999 by Paul King

NAPLES, ITALY -- The last eclipse of the millennium, which swept across Europe earlier this month, brought with it the usual sales gimmicks: hats, T-shirts, special viewing glasses and -- here, in the birthplace of pizza, a new dish: Eclipse Pizza.

Antonio Pace, president of the Genuine Neapolitan Pizza Association, told the Associated Press that the new pie is a variation on the classic pizza margherita, which has a tomato and mozzarella cheese topping.

Pace said the Eclipse Pizza will have the traditional topping, but a ring of bright red sauce representing the sun's corona will encircle the pizza's outer edge.
