Nation's Restaurant News, Jan 20, 2003

NEW YORK -- The Institute of Culinary Education here is offering $23,500 in scholarships to students who have at least two years of full-time experience in the restaurant industry, either front- or back-of-the-house.

A scholarship for culinary-arts or pastry and baking programs pays $15,000 in tuition. The culinary-arts program costs a total of $19,300, and the tab for the pastry program is $18,750. A scholarship for the school's culinary-management program covers $8,500 out of a total tuition of $11,000.

The culinary and pastry programs run from eight to 11 months, start monthly and are offered on morning, afternoon, evening and weekend schedules. The eight-month culinary-management program has morning, afternoon and evening schedules.

Applicants must have a high-school diploma. Their applications, which are due Feb. 15, will be judged based on recommendations, a brief personal letter and demonstrated financial need.

The scholarships are being funded by six of ICE's purveyors.
