Kendall College opens state-of-the-art culinary school building

Nation's Restaurant News, Jan 17, 2005

CHICAGO -- Mayor Richard M. Daley and tourism officials recently joined Kendall College president Howard A. Tullman and Kendall's faculty, students and alumni in unveiling the culinary school's new $50 million state-of-the-art campus here.

Kendall relocated to Chicago after 70 years in Evanston, Ill., to expand and integrate itself into Chicago's culinary and hospitality industry.

The new, eight-floor, 166,000-square-foot building is located at 900 N. Branch St. along the Chicago River. It features 16 high-tech professional kitchens, a restaurant, an auditorium with a demonstration kitchen and broadcast capability, a wine room, organic gardens, a river walkway and other amenities, many of which are open to the public.

Kendall has a current enrollment of approximately 700 students; the new campus has space to accommodate more than 2,000. In addition to the Evanston campus, the Chicago campus will triple Kendall's teaching and training facilities and double its number of kitchens.
