U.S. Foodservice's net sales rise 2.3% in 2nd quarter

AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS -- Royal Ahold here, parent company of Columbia, Md.-based U.S. Foodservice, or USF, reported that USF had a net sales increase of 2.3 percent for the second quarter of this year, compared with the same period a year ago. The broadline division had an increase of 1.8 percent, and its systems division, North Star Foodservice, grew by 5.4 percent.

USF has embarked on a large expansion at its Zebulon distribution facility in Raleigh, N.C. The distributor will add 98,000 square feet, increasing capacity by one-third.
