MIAMI -- Burger King Corp. said U.S. systemwide same-store sales rose 5.3 percent during the month of September, marking eight consecutive months of positive sales. Results were 5.2 percent higher at franchised restaurants and 7.2 percent higher at company-owned units.

Burger King, which is owned by Texas Pacific Group, Bain Capital and Goldman Sachs Capital Partners, has more than 11,220 restaurants in its system, with 91 percent of them owned and operated by franchisees.
