Nation's Restaurant News, Nov 29, 1999

PARMA, ITALY -- Pasta manufacturer Barilla, based here, plans to launch a chain of pasta fastfood restaurants throughout the world, according to London's Evening Standard.

The "Pasta World" units will offer an eclectic range of dishes that will be marketed as "healthier alternatives" to traditional fast food items. Barilla, which is seeking partners for the venture, said it plans to invest roughly $320 million in a two-year expansion plan, which includes a unit in the United States.
