LONG BEACH, CALIF. -- Working, learning and playing were three of the directives guiding the more than 2,500 attendees to the 11th annual International Foodservice Technology Exposition, or FS/TEC, Nov. 5-8 at the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center here.

Produced and managed by Nation's Restaurant News with Robert N. Grimes, chairman and chief executive of Potomac, Md.-based Accuvia, FS/TEC 2006 featured operator-anchored keynote speeches and general sessions, educational breakout presentations, vendor tutorials, and a hall with more than 150 hardware, software and services exhibitors. An awards luncheon and nightly networking receptions also were part of the package, which this year carried the theme, "Where the Pieces of the Foodservice Technology Puzzle Come Together."

FS/TEC's founding sponsors are IBM Corp., Microsoft Corp., Micros Systems Inc. and NCR Corp. The corporate sponsors are Epson America Inc., PAR and Radiant Systems Inc., and the affiliate sponsors are HyperActive Technologies Inc. and Torex Hospitality. Xpient Solutions sponsored the show bag. HyperActive and Torex also sponsored this year's FS/TEC Awards Luncheon, and NCR sponsored the conference's multiple keynote speakers.

The closing networking affair at FS/TEC 2006 was an "Ultimate Play Date Party" at the Long Beach branch of GameWorks, a Glendale, Calif.-based chain of 18 venues featuring arcades, restaurants and bars. Accuvia, The Elliot Leadership Institute, Epson America, HyperActive Technologies, InfoGenesis, Nation's Restaurant News, PAR and Torex Hospitality sponsored the event.
