Coca-Cola in talks with Quaker Oats

ATLANTA -- The Coca-Cola Co. confirmed that it is in discussions regarding a possible transaction with Chicago-based Quaker Oats Co., which owns the Gatorade brand. Quaker Oats recently rejected a $14.8 billion offer from PepsiCo. Quaker Oats reportedly also has been in discussions with France's Danone SA, according to the Associated Press.

Coke's board was expected to meet to discuss a potential deal although no formal offer has been made by either side, according to The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.
