Sysco sales up 8.3% in first quarter

Nation's Restaurant News, Dec 4, 2006

HOUSTON -- Sysco Corp., based here, said sales increased by 8.3 percent in its first fiscal quarter ended in October to $8.7 billion, compared with $8 billion in the same period last year. During the quarter, Sysco added 1 percent to its "customer contact" staff and conducted 11,000 business reviews with customers--3,000 more reviews than a year ago. The customers who participated in the review process increased their sales by percentages in the mid-teens, according to the company. Richard Schnieders, chairman, chief executive and president, said the company has begun a process to centralize sourcing of certain products.

In other Sysco news, Frederick Casinelli has been named executive vice president of Hallsmith-Sysco Food Services in Norton, Mass. He succeeds John C. "Jack" Young, who retired after 19 years with the company.
